information about symptoms

Osteopaths and Chiropractors

Both UK Osteopaths and UK Chiropractors are regulated by UK law. This means that they cannot make wild claims about the various symptoms they can and cannot treat; they must show scientific evidence that symptoms are treatable and for a prolonged period of time.

Osteopaths and Chiropractors treat many of the same symptoms; the main difference being that with some symptoms, Chiropractors may take scans and x-rays to check alongside their physical examination of the patient before commencement of a treatment plan. Symptoms treatable are listed by their professional bodies and you may find Doctors specialising in certain fields such as sports injuries or paediatrics. It is always worth checking with individual Clinics as to the Doctors qualifications and areas of specialities.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been present in the world for thousands of years, including the Western world, and whilst not currently regulated in the UK has been treating a wide range of symptoms with notable success. The claims made are therefore, generally founded. Check with individual practitioners for their specialities and successes in treatment of various symptoms before undertaking treatment plans.

Herbal medicine and Homeopathy

Both Herbal medicine and Homeopathy are younger forms of CAM and not as yet, fully regulated. Claims are made that certain symptoms can be treated and can be found on their professional organisations websites as to the benefits.

Check with the practitioners, and their written claims in their clinic leaflets too. If needs be, ask the Doctors for referrals, to be able to discuss with treated patients with similar symptoms for absolute confirmation.

Other Complementary and Alternative therapies

It is here that there is very little regulation and care does need to be taken with various claims made. There seem to be many made and that is why we have not listed them on our site.

However, medimatters.co.uk have listed most of the larger, well known Complementary and Alternative Medicine professional bodies, for you to check as to the benefits of therapies and their registered therapists.
Contact the organisations if unsure.
